Using an amplifier with adequate power wattage for higher performance is also beneficial. The enclosure requires additional power than that of a ported box. These subwoofers are mainly constructed to produce a deep bass using your car stereo. The woofers are either placed against the rear seat in a car trunk or on a board on a rear deck. How Much Time is Needed to Make a Subwoofer Box Design?
The ported box designs are usually suitable for a subwoofer box design for 12-inch subwoofers. However, these boxes require much larger space than the sealed box design. Each subwoofer has a recommended size box that it performs best in, and this differs if mounting in a sealed or ported box. For this guide, I chose to work with a Sundown Audio Ev3 10’, and to find what size box it would work best in, I checked the specs of the speaker, found on the Sundown website.
Manufacturers frequently recommend a variety of box volumes. With a box that is anywhere within the specified range, you can achieve good results. Generally, a wire gauge of 12 to 16 should be used for a subwoofer, depending on the power.

You can buy cylindrical ports online, or you could use a piece of PVC pipe cut to length. Referring to my subwoofer spec sheet, I see that the recommended port area given is 26 square inches, so I should shoot for this value. To find the port area, multiply the Cross area and the Vent length given after plugging in a vent diameter.

The box’s external dimensions were determined using the techniques outlined above. Deduct the width and strength of the Plywood used to make the subwoofer box and get the internal volume. If you’re using 3/4″ MDF, deduct 2 x 3/4″, or 1-1/2″, from each dimension.
